Peter Edwards is an Architect, an accomplished and recognised Urbanist and a leading figure in this region’s Urban Design community.

Peter is Director and co-founder of the new Architecture and Urban Design practice – Archipelago. As a Citymaker, Peter spend his time conceiving, designing and delivering big parts of major cities. Current projects include the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Athletes Village and subsequent Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct and SunCentral, the future CBD of the Sunshine Coast.

Peter combines work on major projects with key involvement in urban design professional bodies. He is regularly sort as a creative catalyst, design team leader, public speaker, authors and facilitates design workshops, and continues to advocate publicly for better cities by design.

Peter is the Immediate Past President of the Urban Design Alliance Qld, a member of the Board for Urban Places and sits on a number of boards and panels in the Citymaking sector.

He is a convert to the cause of the creative class and a massive fan of Creative 3.

What’s been your career highlight?  

Winning the Commonwealth Games bid for Gold Coast 2018.

In one sentence, where do you see the future of your industry in the next 5–10 years?

Slowly sliding into irrelevancy unless it wakes up, takes responsibility for its own design quality – and embraces risk.
